Here are my first impressions of ABC’s fall slate of new shows!

These are the shows I’ll be checking out in the 2014 – 2015 TV Season:

How To Get Away With Murder
Thursdays at 10pm

  • SYNOPSIS: A sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller about a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant, mysterious criminal defense professor who become entangled in a murder plot that will rock the entire university and change the course of their lives [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I have a love-hate relationship with Shonda Rhimes, but both the cast and the premise of this show looks so promising that I’m going to let myself get sucked into another Rhimes show.
  • Trailer [x]

Marvel’s Agent Carter

  • SYNOPSIS: Set in 1946, this drama tells the story of Captain America‘s Peggy Carter, who goes on secret missions for Howard Stark while adjusting to losing the love of her life [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The trailer hasn’t technically been released yet, but a show with a female lead, created by two female showrunners, is a show that I absolutely want to check out. Also, everything I’ve heard about Peggy Carter, from friends who are obsessed with the Marvel universe, make me think that I am really going to enjoy this.
  • Trailer [To Be Released]

Tuesdays at 10pm

  • SYNOPSIS: Dr. Henry Morgan is New York City’s star medical examiner, but what no one knows is Henry studies the dead for a reason: He is immortal. With the help of detective Jo Martinez, the show peels back the layers of Henry’s colorful and long life through their cases [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I don’t know if I’ll be interested past the pilot, and the main character seems a tad too House-esque for my liking, but the trailer was intriguing enough that I’m willing to give it a shot!
  • Trailer [x]

Fridays at 8:30pm

  • SYNOPSIS: Cristela has been in law school for 6 years and is finally on the brink of landing her very first internship at a prestigious law firm. The only issue she faces is that she’s more ambitious than her traditional Mexican-American family thinks is appropriate. She’s stuck between the old culture she’s trying to modernize at home with her working-class family and the modern world she’s trying to embrace in her professional career [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I didn’t laugh much during the trailer, but the character of Cristela seems sweet and endearing, and I’m looking forward to checking out the pilot!
  • Trailer [x]

Fresh Off The Boat

  • SYNOPSIS: A comedy series starring Hudson Yang, that is loosely based on the life of chef and food personality Eddie Huang and his book Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Not exactly the best name – ironic and off-putting – but this show seems very sweet, and like it will be a good commentary on the Asian-American culture and the relationship it has in Western society. I’m hoping it lives up to expectation.
  • Trailer [x]

The Whispers

  • SYNOPSIS: A drama about an alien invasion, in which earth’s enemies possess children’s bodies to take down humanity [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: This show seems incredibly creepy. Anything involving children doing uncomfortably terrifying acts is terrifying. I may not be able to last while watching this show, but the premise is interesting enough that I’m looking forward to watching the pilot.
  • Trailer [x]

Wednesdays at 9:30pm

  • SYNOPSIS: An upper-middle class black man struggles to raise his children with a sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old-school father and his own assimilated, colour-blind kids [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Yet another show with an unfortunate title, however, it also looks like another endearing show that has the opportunity to provide a commentary on the relationship between American and African-American culture.
  • Trailer [x]

  • SYNOPSIS: A musical fairy tale that centers on handsome Prince Galavant and his quest for revenge over the king who stole his one true love [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: This show is both medieval and musical. I am so in.
  • Trailer [x]

These are the shows I’ll be passing on:

Selfie (Tuesdays at 8pm), Manhattan Love Story (Tuesdays at 8:30pm), Secrets and Lies (Midseason), American Crime (Midseason)

These two midseason shows do not have trailers released yet, so I am unable to make any judgments on it!

  • The Club
  • The Taste
