The CW

Here are my first impressions of The CW’s fall slate of new shows!

These are the shows I’ll be checking out in the 2014 – 2015 TV Season:

The Flash
Tuesdays at 8pm

  • SYNOPSIS: Based upon characters published by DC Comics, through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I have not got gotten swept up in the superhero craze yet, but my sister is in the process of making me watch Arrow and the trailer of Gotham already sucked me in, so the rave reviews I’ve been hearing from TV journalists –  (the majority of whom are saying that it is the best pilot of the 2014 – 2015 season) – are only making me more and more excited for this pilot!
  • Trailer [x]

Jane the Virgin
Mondays at 9pm

  • SYNOPSIS: A series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina woman to be accidentally artificially inseminated. Adapted from the successful Venezuelan telenovela [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The premise of this show sounds pretty ridiculous, but I was surprisingly charmed by the trailer. Jane, the main character, seems sweet and intelligent and strong – everything you should want from a female character. I’ll definitely be checking it out!
  • Trailer [x]

The Messengers

  • SYNOPSIS: When a mysterious object crashes down to earth, a group of seemingly unconnected strangers die from the energy pulse, but then awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending Apocalypse [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I’m not 100% sold on this yet, but it has Shantel VanSanten and moralistic dilemmas so I’ll watch the pilot at the very least.
  • Trailer [x]

  • SYNOPSIS: A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint [x].
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The trailer for this has yet to be released in Canada (I couldn’t find it anywhere on YouTube), so I can’t quite make a decision, but it’s written by Rob Thomas and has Robert Buckley in it, so I will give it a shot at the very least!
  • Trailer [To Be Released]
